Herman Wallace, One of ‘Angola 3,’ Released After 41 Years in Solitary Confinement

After an astounding 41 years spent in solitary confinement in a Louisiana prison, Herman Wallace, 71, one of the famous “Angola 3,” who is dying of cancer, was released from prison yesterday after U.S. District Chief Judge Brian Jackson overturned Wallace’s 1974 murder conviction for the death of a prison guard.

Now, after a terminal liver cancer diagnosis, Wallace’s legal team hopes that he can finally get adequate care upon his release.

After the warden was ordered to return to the prison, dying inmate Herman Wallace was released from Elayn Hunt Prison and went to New Orleans, officials said.
